Javier Villegas takes 1st Place at the Riga, Latvia round of the 2011 FIM IFMXF World Championship series!
I had the pleasure of going to Norway for the first time. I rode at the Motorshow with Edgar Torronteras, Morgan Carlson and Brody Wilson. After so much competition lately it was allot of fun to do a show, getting to ride my bike with no pressure just for fun.
Right after getting back from Norway I put my bike together and got in to my truck to drove 11 hours (by personal choice) to get to Salt Lake City, Utah to compete in my first ever Speed and Style competition. The Hart and Huntington Speed and style contest held at the 4th stop of the Dew Tour was a great experience. I got a 5th place overall with two 3rd places on the speed in my heats and with two 1st places in style put me in at second for both of my heats. Since it was my first Speed and Style I was satisfied with 5th place. Pretty good for a guy that hasn't raced in about 8 years. Now I want to get faster on the track and improve my overall results.
I was also slated to visit Australia for the first time, for the last stop of the Red Bull X Fighters. But I was unable to get my Visa in time so I was forced to stay home. I made the most of my time at home practicing my tricks and landing a few new combos like Heel clicker to Indian flip, and Indian to Indian flips. I also focused on my Double grab flips and have been getting them better and better.
Finally, I went to Argentina to do the first FMX demo in Buenos Aires. Since these people had never seen bikes flying 75 ft through the air before, they went insane for the Red Bull X Fighters jams. The event was held on the widest street in the world in front of the Obelisco. 35,000 insane fans spent the first part of the show without an expression, you could only see disbelief on their faces, just watching them explode in OOO's and WOW's, it was amazing. I can't wait to repeat the experience again.
So the Night of the Jumps summer break is finally over and competition resumed this past weekend in Riga, Latvia to a jam-packed stadium and a technical course. I was eager to get back into the swing of things and bring some of my new tricks to the table. I qualified in 3rd place behind Josh Sheehan and Remi. The riding level at these events is so high that you have to be completely focused and confident in your abilities to succeed. I planned out my run for the finals and gave it everything I had holding my tricks longer and extending everything farther than ever. I was completely satisfied with my run. When the finals were over and I had won, I was overwhelmed with excitement. I know how hard I work and it is paying off. I am so beyond pumped!
