Hangin Out With: Chris Plouffe
It has been fun to watch Chris Plouffe come through the ranks over the last few years. Plouffe was always a top rider in whatever class he entered, but that treasured Loretta Lynn's
title has always eluded him ... that is until 2010, when Plouffe took home the championship in the 450B Mod class! He has been working hard, and the hard work finally paid off.
PanicREV: So Chris, you are coming home from Loretta's with a title. How does that feel?
Chris Plouffe: It feels so good. I worked really hard before Loretta's. I wanted this year to be my year to shine and my hard work paid off.
PRev: Take us through your motos in that class.
CP: My first moto I started 3rd or so and got into the lead early in the race; then I led it for like 5 laps, but when I got into the lead I tensed up and didn't ride like I was in the beginning of the race. I ended up 2nd in that moto. The second moto I holeshotted and led the whole race. I even fell with 2 or 3 laps to go, but I managed to get up and still win the race. Going into the third and final moto, I knew what I needed to get for the title. I pulled the holeshot and on the very first lap I got a flat front tire. I went back to 4th place, then to 3rd, and somehow, with 3 or 4 laps to go, I found myself back in the lead. On the last lap I knew I didn't need to win for the title, so I slowed down a lot to make sure I would finish the race. I ended up 4th in that moto, which was still good enough for the title.
PRev: You rode one of your motos with a flat front tire, but still charged and put in a solid finish. That's pretty impressive!
CP: Thank you. I rode 20 minutes plus 2 laps with a flat front tire in the 3rd moto. That was the craziest race of my life.
PRev: You were also in the hunt for a second title going into the final collegeboy moto. What happened there?
CP: I didn't get that great of a start, and I didn't ride that well the whole race. Tyler Bereman and Dylan Cox were both riding great all week, and in that last moto of collegeboy they both just rode a little better than I did. Bereman deserved the title; he rode awesome.
PRev: You spent a few weeks in Texas before LL. How did that go? Did it help you get acclimated and ready for LL?
CP: Yeah, coming to Texas before Loretta helped me a lot. Mitch Alcorn and I came and stayed at Naveen's. I rode with Mitch Alcorn and the Honda of Houston kids like Vann Martin, Jayme Gardiner, and Jonah Comier. We all did motos together to get ready for Loretta's.
PRev: Now that you have a LL title in the B class, when will we see you in the A class?
CP: I'll be at Pala amateur day and I'll be at Mini O's in November as my first AMA pro national.
PRev: What is the next race on your schedule?
CP: I'm going to do a few local races and also Pala amateur day.
PRev: So I know you like to fish and stuff ... what's your biggest fish story?
CP: It's not a big fish story but... When I was about 12 years old or so I was at Malibu beach for 4th of July, and I was fishing all day but didn't catch anything. Then I ran out of bait and all I had left was sour gummy worms that I was eating. Well I put one of them on for bait and ended up catching a Corvina. I never expected to catch a fish off a sour gummy worm.
PRev: Is there anything else you would like to add?
CP: I'd like to thank my whole family. I couldn't do it without my Mom, Dad, or my sister. They do so much for me. I can't thank them enough. Honda of Houston, Powered By Naveen, H&S Electric, Answer Racing, Pro Taper, Factory Effex, Smith, Deft Family, Dunlop, Asterisk, AC Racing, Pit Pro, Matrix, Twin Air.
PRev: Thanks Chris, we will see you soon bud.
CP: Thank you Scott.
