Click It or Miss It: Tyler Bereman
We ran across Tyler Bereman in 2009 at Mammoth Motocross. At the time he had a shaved head and looked like a gnarly and, to be honest, tough guy! A few months later we ran into Tyler again at the Dodge Amateur National and the kid was nothing like we thought! Tyler was a an aggressive charger on the track, but off the bike he wasn't that gnarly tough guy at all! He turned out to be one of the nicest kids in the pits! Over the last year we have really gotten to know Tyler a lot better and are honored to call him a friend!
Over the last few years Tyler has overcome a lot, including a number of injuries to fight his way
to the top of the intermediate class. In the amateur motocross world, all roads lead to Loretta Lynn's. A Loretta Lynn's championship is without a doubt the holy grail of amateur motocross. This year Tyler headed to the Loretta Lynn's ranch with high hopes and huge dreams ... he headed back home with a coveted Loretta Lynn's Championship in the Collegeboy class!
PanicREV: What's up champ? Congrats on winning the Collegeboy title at Loretta Lynn's! Was this your first title? How does it feel?
Tyler Bereman: Thank you! It feels awesome to get a title at Loretta’s! I won a couple titles last year, but this was my first trip to The Ranch. I’m stoked that I can say I walked away with a title! It’s the best feeling in the world!
PRev: Take us through your week at The Ranch.
TB: Well, with it being my first time there, I was just trying to soak it all in! The place is amazing and there’s something going on all the time! I had a few days off and when I wasn’t racing I was out swimming in the river or just smashing the Zuma around and watching the races! I love the place and can’t wait to go back next year!
PRev: How was the track and the weather?
TB: The track was sick! I thought it was really fun. The lines were changing every lap. It’s just a lot different compared to what I’m used to in California!
The weather was unreal! We got kind of lucky and it only rained once, but the heat was ridiculous. The first day I raced it was 102 degrees plus the humidity and a heat index of 117. My motos were 28 and 30, almost back to back. I almost passed out from heat exhaustion at the end of the day; it was brutal! But luckily it kind of cooled off the rest of the week and the back to back motos weren’t as bad!
PRev: What's next for you Tyler? Are you going to move into the A class right away?
TB: Yeah the plan is to move up to the A class! My first race will most likely be the amateur day at Pala; I’m pumped on that! Hopefully I can keep the ball rolling and get things dialed for next year!
PRev: How did you run cross the guys here at Panicrev?
TB: Yeah it’s kind of a funny story! I was at the Dodge National in 2009, and I was standing in the staging area talking to Jeagher Lafountaine, laughing and talking about girls! The whole Panicrev crew (Jeff Jetton, Scott & John Parkinson) walked up to talk to him. I didn’t know them at the time, but was familiar with the site, and John was carrying a camera! I introduced myself to him and asked if he took a picture I saw on the site. Then he introduced me to Scott and Jeff and I thought they were some of the coolest guys I have ever met! Since then I have kept in close contact with them and try to go to worship every time I’m in the area!
PRev: What do you think about what PanicREV is doing and what we represent?
TB: I believe what PanicREV has done by spreading the word of how important Jesus Christ is, is a blessing to have in the motocross community. I couldn’t have achieved as much as I have in life if I didn’t have faith in Jesus Christ. It’s nice to have the opportunity to take a step back and realize who you are and where you came from! I think it’s very important, and it’s very easy to get caught up and forget about God. I’m just thankful PanicREV is there to keep us motivated and focused on Him!
PRev: Let's get to know you a little better. What kinda stuff do you do away from the track?
TB: I try to stay active at all times! When I’m not at the track I usually spend most of my afternoons at the skate park by my house shredding my bicycle! When I’m not there, I’m usually riding my road bike, at the gym, or now shredding the new RC car I won at Lorettas [smiles]! Other than that, I like to chill with my friends and have a good time!
PRev: When you aren't training, what's your favorite thing to eat?
TB: When I’m not training I love to enjoy a giant burrito from Chipotle! Rite Aid/Thrifty ice cream is amazing after that nice meal!
PRev: You almost always seem to be upbeat, happy, and walking around with a smile on your face! How do you keep such a positive attitude?
TB: I just try to stay positive and have fun with it! It seems like when you take it too seriously, you don’t have fun with it. Then you start making mistakes and get burnt out. I just try to have fun and ride my dirtbike! It’s the only thing that makes me happy and I’m going to do it until I can’t physically ride anymore!
... That’s the day I might stop smiling!!
PRev: Is there anything you would like to add?
TB: Yea definitely. I just want to give a shout out to all my sponsors! First of all I want to thank all my family and friends! I couldn’t be where I am today without my Grandpa! He’s the man! Yamaha, NCY, Answer, Pro Taper, DR.D, Race Tech, Deft Family, C4MX, Maxima, Works Connection, CTI-2, Gaerne, Nor-Cal Decal, and special thanks to PanicREV!
PRev: Well, thanks for taking the time Tyler. Look forward to seeing you out on the track.
TB: Thank you Scott, I appreciate it! I look forward to seeing you and everyone else at Jeagher's Ride day on August 24th!
