Hangin Out With: Justin Soule'
We caught up with Team Kawasaki's Off-Road racer Justin Soule' to talk about racing, moving, and Jesus. We hope you enjoy this edition of Hangin Out With ...
PanicREV: Justin, please tell us a little bit about yourself.
Justin Soule': Well my name is Justin Soule' and I am from Reno, NV. I am 21 years old and have been racing since I was 6 years old. I started out racing motocross, and in 98' switched to racing off road full time. I currently compete in the WORCS series, endurocross series, and other selected events.
PRev: This year you made the move from KTM to Kawasaki. How is the new team and new machine?
JS: The switch from KTM to Kawi has been great. I grew up riding Kawasakis and rode for Team Green for my whole amateur career. So for me I have just returned home, so to speak. I love the bike and the team, it's an awesome work environment to be around.
PRev: We are four rounds into the 2010 WORCS Series. Take us through your season so far.
JS: The 2010 season so far has been OK. I mean I can't complain because I am still sitting 4th in points, but I have had some pretty hard crashes that I have had to soldier through. So for me, my speed has been better than my results. There is no reason I shouldn't be a consistent podium guy or winning. It's coming though; I just know it!
PRev: You are currently 4th in the points standings in the WORCS series. What are your goals for the rest of the year?
JS: My goals for the remainder of the 2010 season is to be what I said above -- a consistent podium guy and to grab a few wins. That would be awesome! Other than that, my goal is to keep my bike on two wheels and be safe.
PRev: Let's talk about your faith. When did you become a Christian?
JS: I grew up in church, but never really grasped the full intimate relationship you could have with Jesus. I compartmentalized my church life and real life. Living two different lives basically. I lived that way for along time. Finally when all was stripped away, I came to him fully humbled and turned everything to him my freshman year.
PRev: You lead Bible studies and prayer for the riders in the WORCS series. Tell us about that.
JS: Yeah it's a pretty cool thing. I started out just leading the worship for a guy who was doing the services a few years ago. He eventually couldn't do it anymore and Sean Reddish (the owner of WORCS), asked if I would like to take it over. I prayed about it for a while and ended up doing it. I have done it the last 3 1/2 years and am planning to continue.
PRev: If you can, share a story where your faith really seem to come alive.
JS: Worship! I love worship... There are so many ways people connect with God, whether it be through nature or song and dance so on and so forth! I love to just praise God for all that he is. I have played the
drums for about 11 years and the guitar for about 7. Anytime I can listen or play for God's glory is when I really connect and feel the presence of everything He is. So it's kind of a wide net of an answer, but I connect and feel him passionately in every worship aspect and moment.
PRev: We met you a few years back while doing an outreach at the Dodge Amateur National at Hangtown. Do you get to race motocross much?
JS: Oh yeah for sure, I love motocross. It's the best way to sharpen skills and get faster. That's pretty much all I ride for training. The intensity you pick up and the guys you get to chase carry over fully into off road. I think everyone needs to be an all around rider, good at everything on a motorcycle: motocross, off road, supercross, endurocross and just trail riding. Each has a different skill.
PRev: Are you going to be at Mammoth Motocross this year?
JS: I will be at Mammoth for sure this year. I am already signed up and ready to go. That's one of my favorite events of the year, minus getting up so early to get in line, ha ha!
PRev: The word is that you might be moving to SoCal. When do you think you might do that?
JS: We are moving right after the next WORCS race, May 14. I am pretty excited but sad at the same time. I have lived in Reno my whole life, and there is so much riding right out of my garage. It's going to be tough having to load up to ride everyday; I am not used to that. But the flip side is that the weather is usually good down in So Cal, and there are so many fast guys. It's going to be good for my career.
PRev: Justin, it has been an honor to get to know you over the past few years. We look forward to watching God to continue to use you for His kingdom.
JS: Same here. It's awesome fellowship doing what we love to do riding motorcycles and living for God. Your services to the motorcycle community are above and beyond, and it's a pleasure to know you guys and all that you do for the kingdom.
PRev: Is there anything you would like to add?
JS: God has put so many great people in my life, my wife and family, Monster Energy Kawasaki, Shoei, Moose, Alpinestars, Scott, just everyone of my sponsors. They are making my dream come true, and I literally couldn't do it without any of them.
