Hangin Out With: Trey Canard
Photos by: John Parkinson
We have had the opportunity to really get to know Trey Canard over the last few years. The kid rips on a dirt bike, but even cooler than that is Trey is all about Jesus! Trey wears his faith on his shoulder. Over the last few years he has been a popular target on the moto boards, but what you see is what you get. He doesn't hide his faith or any of his beliefs in Christ. Trey has been a encouragement to everyone here at PanicREV. Moreover, God has been using Trey in big ways. We are all looking forward to seeing how God continues to use the young rider. Trey always keep it light; he even likes to invent his own words from time to time (Trey, "loopoutableness," really? hahaha read on you will see what I mean). We all hope you enjoy Hangin Out With Trey Canard as much as we did!
PanicREV: Trey, you walked away from Anaheim 3 with your second win of the season. First congrats! Second, can you walk us through your race?
Trey Canard: Thanks it was an awesome race! I was so excited to get that win, San Diego left a bad
taste in my mouth so to have a great weekend at A3 just felt incredible. The heat race went pretty awesome; even though I didn't win, watching it was fun for myself. The main was a great race for me. I felt I stayed calm and did what I needed to do. Hopefully all to the glory of my Saviour.
PRev: You made up 12 points on Weimer this weekend to close his points lead to 14 points. It put you right there in the points hunt again. What is your mind set as we take a break before wrapping up the last two west coast rounds?
TC: It's still 14 points so a lot would have to happen for me to have any hope, but for myself I just want to go put in good races on the 450 then come back to Seattle and ride a good consistent 15 laps; what happens, happens. I'll do all I can do.
PRev: You have had some ups and some downs so far this year. How have you been dealing with the highs and lows?
TC: Overall, it's been a great year. I've been healthy, completed all the races so far ... and haven't finished outside of 7th so I can't complain one bit.
PRev: So with the series heading to the east coast and Andrew Short being hurt, you are going to be riding his 450 a few rounds. Are you excited to get that opportunity?
TC: Absolutely excited about it. Bummed for Andrew, but this has been my dream to race the premier class for a factory team. It's an awesome experience and I couldn't be more thankful!
PRev: Have you been able to get much time on the 450 the last few years?
TC: I raced the 450 a lot as an amateur so I'm not completely foreign to it, but the 450 class is a totally
different way of racing. There are a lot of unknown factors on my part, so just getting races under my belt will be cool!
PRev: Do you know what rounds you will be on the 450 yet?
TC: Yeah, as far as I know, I will race Indy through either Dallas or Jacksonville, so 5 or 6 races.
PRev: What are you hoping to take from this experience in the 450 class?
TC: For me, just good consistent races and hopefully some good results. However, for me it will be fun, new, and exciting ... and when I hop back on the lites bike it should be even more enjoyable.
PRev: Let's change gears a little. Your faith is a major part of your life. How has it helped you deal with some of the peaks and valleys that you have gone through both on and off the track?
TC: Well, its an anchor for me because no matter what I have a home with my creator and saviour; all this other stuff is just a bonus that I get to have on this earth.
PRev: We were talking a couple weeks back about how silly it is that we all get so wrapped up in this sport. What do you do to help you keep your eyes focused on God's Kingdom and keep it first in your life?
TC: I try my best to always have Christ on my mind, so for me surronding myself with Christ-like people and always going to worship and praying and studying and just having good fellowship helps a ton!
PRev: When are you going to see some sweet goon riding videos again? Let hook up and get that rollin, I think it is time!
TC: Dude, I know I've got some good ideas coming out but I think I need to wait until there isn't so much loopoutableness underneath me!
PRev: Is there anything you would like to add?
TC: Thank you everyone who has supported my stand for Christ. It's a blessing and remember to take Christ serious; he is the reason we can live forever.
