Hangin Out With: Jason Potter

This year while we were at the DodgeAmateur National we were fortunate enough to meet a number of new riders. 2Godreally blessed our time up there. One of the people we met was Jason Potter.Jason was ripping in the Pro Class, he was running in the top five in severalmotos. Last week, we had the opportunity to sit down with Jason and get to knowthe Idaho native better.

PanicREV: Jason, for those that may not have heard about you, please give a little introduction.
Jason Potter: My name is Jason Potter. I'm 22 years old and live in Spokane, Washington. I got a late start racing. I didn't start riding until I was 12 years old because I was actually scared of motorcycles and only rode quads. I turned pro in 2007 after a few top 5's in the "B"class at a couple amateur nationals in 2006. Outside of racing, I really enjoy hanging out with friends and relaxing.

PRev: Last year was your first year racing Supercross. How was that experience?
JP: I actually did a few Supercross races in 2008, I had just earned my AMA license and didn't know I could do SX until the 1season had already started. I qualified for the night program in my second race at Houston and also in Seattle. For the 2009 season, I was hoping to make some mains. At A1, I qualified for the night program, but had bad luck with traffic in my heat and LCQ. In Phoenix, I had a wreck in practice and broke my hand, unfortunately ending my SX season for 2009.

PRev: What are your goals heading into this year's Supercross Series?
JP: For 2010, I plan on doing the entire West Coast lites series. My goals are first to qualify for every night program. I should have no issues doing so, but there are a lot of fast riders. I also want to make a couple main events. It's gonna take good starts and consistent laps, but I'm ready!

PRev: We met you up at the Dodge Amateur National, where you put in a super impressive motos. Tells us a little bit about your week.
JP: The week at Dodge was filled with its ups and downs. Monday and Thursday's practices went well; I think I was top 5 in every practice. My first set of motos were a bit rough. I had a good get-off on my 450. My second 250 moto was 3definitely the highlight of the weekend, where I grabbed the holeshot and rode a smart race to finish in 2nd. Unfortunately, in my 3rd 250 moto while running 4th early on, my motor gave out, but I didn't let that ruin my day and rallied to 3rd in the last 450 moto. Overall I had a great time, and made a little money on top of it [smiles].

PRev: To be honest, you caught our eye at Dodge because you had a rad Jesus sticker on your helmet. What is that about?
JP: I had my best friend Brian Brown make that up for me. He has his own sticker business. It really turned out sweet, and I'm glad people are noticing it!

PRev: How long have you been a Christian? How did you come to know the Lord?

JP: I became a Christian at the age of 10. My parents are Christians so I would go to church every Sunday, and when I got older and started understanding how He loved us so much that he died for me and everyone. It just grew from there.

PRev: How has your faith impacted or effected your racing?
JP: My faith has impacted my racing in many ways. The biggest thing is that I know that I am ultimately not in control of 4what happens on and off the track; God has a plan for everything and I just have to take whatever he gives me and make the best of it!

PReV: Is there anything you would like to add?
JP: Ya. If there are any factory rides out there that need to be filled. I'm your guy [LAUGH TER]!

PRev: Who are the people you would like to thank?
JP: I would first like to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for giving me the abilityto do something I love. Also thanks to Panicrev for giving me the opportunityto share a bit about myself and for a great website!
