Hangin Out With: The Station
PanicREV: Tell us a little bit about The Station.
The Station: The Station is a new non-profit adventure camp located in Mammoth Lakes, Ca that has a passion to see this next generation “forever changed and never the same.” What an
incredible way to encounter the Most High God than to get away and enjoy what He has made. Because He made it for us! Whether we go rock climbing or backpacking, mountain biking or dirt biking, snowboarding or skiing; we want people to be changed. We want people to walk away from this place with such a powerful sense of accomplishment and know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the creator of the universe is so in love with them. The Station is in one of the premier locations in the nation for epic snowboarding/skiing in the winter, and we have access to some of the best rock climbing, backpacking, wake boarding, mountain biking, and motocross trails. Mammoth is also the home of the Volcom Skate Park, and we hope to develop an incredible skateboard camp in the future. The Station offers a variety of camps all year around; youth group camps, action sports camps, family camps, leadership/corporate retreats, and inner city/at risk youth camps. We use extreme sports and God’s amazing wilderness to challenge and inspire each person that steps onto The Station property.
PRev: You hosted a couple PanicREV events while we were up there for Mammoth Motocross. Tell us a little bit about your heart for ministry.
TS: We want to reach everyone! So, when PanicREV told us what they were up to, we were so into it! It was so amazing to have them here! We loved watching all the motocross kids hanging out at our camp and praising God. We’re so stoked to partner with them and super excited to see how God will use us together in the future to reach young motocross athletes!
PRev: I see you guys have a Wake Camp coming up soon. Tell us about it.
TS: Wake Camp 09 is going to be August 23rd - 27th.It’s going to be an awesome 5 days of wakeboarding, wake surfing, and wakeskating, hanging out, eating and getting coached by industry professionals! Olympian snowboarder and pro-wake surfer Tommy Czeschin is on board along with pro wakeboarder Nick Haisch and pro wakeskater Mike McKinney. We recently dropped the price of the camp; it is now only $550 per person!
PRev: The mantra for the Wake Camp is "forever changed, never thesame." What are some of things you hope people will experience while atthe camp?
TS: As we have watched this generation seekout the truth of who God really is, while the world has blurred the lines ofwho He is, we have recognized the great need to make sure that God’s Word be proclaimed clearly to the generations to come. All of our action sports camps share this vision because we long to touch this next generation with hope and the absolute truth of who God is. Our goal for Wake Camp 09 is to provide a world class water sports camp where today’s youth are totally immersed in the water sports culture while we preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Our hope is that campers are continually progressing in their skills: trying 180’s, going wake to wake, and pushing themselves to go bigger than ever before; all the while being challenged and prompted to “go bigger” in their faith in Jesus and realize that they can accomplish mighty things for the kingdom of God. We sincerely desire to see lives forever changed for Christ through Wake Camp.
PRev: What is the vision for The Station the next few years?
TS: Our first year was all about construction, training our new staff and creating the camp program. The Station’s vision for the next few years is all about people coming and experiencing what we have to offer as a camp. We need to get the word out there that we are here! Our hope is to partnerwith pros and organizations in the action sports industry, so that we can reachthe next generation of extreme sports athletes. We also have a huge heart for inner city and at-risk youth, and would love to partner with others who have this same heart to make a way for these amazing young people to come to camp, so that we can touch their lives with hope. The Station strives for a spirit of excellence in all that we do, so wewill consistently evaluate and modify our camps to meet the needs and desires of our campers in the best possible way.
