Crossover Interview: Brian Sumner
PanicREV: So Brian, where and when did it all begin?
Brian Sumner: June 2nd 1979 Fazakerly Hospital Liverpool England
PRev: How often were you skating and how focused were you onit?
BS: I started at 13 and I was focused all hours of the day on it. As soon as I woke I was watching vids, taking train or bus into town and skating all hours.
PRev: Where are you at now in your career?
BS: In my career I am very blessed. I spent years working on specific this or that and I realy didn't understand the purpose or reason. In fact, it was just all about me and what I wanted to do. Now I realise that skating is a gift God gave us and I want to skate more so but rather than present myself, I want to present Jesus Christ. All things were created by Him for Him, and so we should use our gifts for that very purpose. Let everything that has breath Praise The Lord!
PRev: Did you have plans on getting to where you did or was it just for fun?
BS: Actually I just loved to skate, and when I would see Geoff Rowley around town I always wanted to get free product like he was getting. Soon it was just another reason to push myself. Starting at the right time, doing what tricks I was going, coming over to America riding for Birdhouse, touring with Tony and those certain years really all just came because of those years I spend having fun as a kid.
PRev: With us being moto dorks, what is the routine you wouldhave to take throughout life with skate to get to the top of the game?
BS: Loving it, daily just being into it in everyway. Spending hours out late night skating just a box or quarter pipe. Its an obession. Kids ask how do you do it, and how can I be sponsored, but truthfully for what it takes today for kids to stick out it will take so much more than what it once took. But if there is love for it, kids will skate and progress.
PRev: What is the hardest thing to overcome in skating?
BS: Personally there isn't anything about skating. I would say for the majority of the pros it is being fooled by the industry and many of them losing their fun because of it. Skating is no one, but whoever is doing it.
PRev: How does God come into play with your skating?
BS: God is before everything. I would give up skating the second God told me to. It's vanity with out Him being the motive and goal. Paul preached Christ and Christ crucified, the Apostle to the gentiles, us. So would he skate if it didn't bring glory to the father. We know we can trust God, but can God trust us? Is skating about us, or Him? He who is not willing to give his life for My sake will lose it, but he who loses for My sake will find it. We have to die to ourselves daily. Skating is dead without Christ.
PRev: What was the biggest challenge in life that you had to deal with? Have you always been a believer?
BS: I have been a believer for 5 years this august. Biggest challenge was life, and being without Christ. But that test has brought testimony and the mess has brought message. I count it all as loss, but Christ ...
PRev: Any final words?
BS: Yes, of course. Man is destined to die once and then judgement. As soon as we die, we
are judged, according to what? God's standard, what God put in place. The Law, 613 commands, of which James says if we have broken the Law in any one places we are guilty of it all. We have all broken it, because The Word tells us ALL have sinned and ALL have fallen short of the Glory of God. One lie, one lustful though, disrespectful to our parents. Before God today the world is condemned. One day every knee will bow and confess Jesus is Lord. We can't think ourselves to Heaven, we arent good enough. Without His blood there is no atonement for our sin. Jesus hung upon Calvary's Cross to save the world. Without Christ's Blood we are stil guilty of sin. Before God today, we are a breath away from Heaven or Hell. Does this magazing matter much, the food you are about to eat what you may have to do tonight to handle life? I met Jesus Christ and He healed my marriage, being suidical and lives inside of me. We know we need a savior because we all have sinned, Jesus Christ is the only way, and its by putting our faith in Him, living for Him and turning away from the world and sin. We are either in Christ or not. John the Baptist and then Jesus preached repent. I ask you today, have you met Jesus? Have you repented? Have you met The Living savior? If you evolved, get over yourself we are just monkeys anyway right? A lie from the pits of Hell. God created you in His image. You will meet Him one day, why not now?
