San Francisco SX Lites Report

photos by: John Parkinson

Heat 1:
Jakes Weimer picked up right where he left off, on top of the podium, taking the win in the first Lites heat race in San Fran. Weimer grabbed the holeshot and never looked back. Phillip
_MG_0652Nicoletti looked strong early running as high has second before going down. Nicoletti was able to recover from the fall and take the final transfer spot in 9th. Putting in a solid ride and placing second in the heat was Cole Seely. The rider on the gas in heat 1 was no doubt Wil Hahn. Hahn came off a bad start to cut through the pack and charge his way into 5th in the heat.

Big props to Cody Rye who made his first night show of the season. Cody road awesome and placed 16th in heat 1. Cody, the PanicREV crew is proud of you brotha! If you missed it last week make sure you CLICK HERE to check out the interview we did with Cody.

Here is a rundown on how they qualified:
1) Jake Weimer
2) Cole Seely
3) Antonio Balbi
4) Hunter Hewitt
5) Wil Hahn
6) Travis Baker
7) Chris Gosselaar
8) Ryan Clark
9) Phillip Nicoletti

Heat 2:
_MG_0858In heat 2 Trey Canard came out swinging and found himself in the lead early. Canard road in the heat like he was ready to give Weimer a challenge for that top spot on the box. Early in the heat Canard was followed by Josh Hansen and Blake Wharton. Wharton ended up going down, finishing outside of a qualifying position. That would mean Wharton would find himself heading to the LCQ for the second week in a row. Hansen continued to ride strong and finished the heat in second.

We met Jason Potter at the Dodge Amateur National last year. The PanicREV crew was pumped to see Jason take the final transfer spot into the main placing 9th. Jason road awesome and was charging the whole heat race. Look for a video featuring Jason on the PanicREV website soon!

Here is a rundown on how they qualified:
1) Trey Canard
2) Josh Hansen
3) Jeff Alessi
4) Josh Clarck
5) Daniel Hendrix
6) Max Anstie
7) Broc Tickle
8) Jake Canada
9) Jason Potter

LCQ:
Blake Wharton ran away with the LCQ. Eric Mccrummen finished second, but Robert Kiniry gave him a run for his money. In the end it was Wharton and Mccrummen heading to the main. Both Kiniry and Sean Borkenhagen would have to sit out this week's main event.

Main:
Coming into the night I am sure a few people had thoughts of a Jake Weimer West Coast Lites sweep. Don't tell Trey Canard that, who came out of his heat looking strong and ready to do battle. Canard pick up in the main where he left off in his heat race, with the lead! Canard put in 15 strong, consistent, and smart laps to take the win and hand Weimer his first loss of the season. Weimer road well, but seemed to either be riding conservatively or was not feeling comfortable on the San Fran track. Based, on Weimer's post race interview it was the latter. In the interview Weimer didn't seem very happy he didn't get the win and had to settle for second. He stated we should expect him to be on top of the box again at the next round in San Diego.

Coming into the season most people were looking for Broc Tickle to really make a slash in the Lites class this season. Other than a heat win at A1 Tickle has been on pace, but has run into some bad luck. His lucked turned for the better in San Fran! Tickle was finally able to get a start and road a great race. He took the final podium position in 3rd. Look for Broc to string together a number of top finishes in the remaining rounds of the West Coast Lites Series.

Coming off of last weekend's second place finish Wil Hahn was hoping for much the same in San Fran. Unfortunately, Hahn had to work his way up from a horrible 12th place start. Hahn set his eyes forward and began his charge. When the 15 lap main was over and the checkered flag waved, Hahn had passed 8 riders and found himself in 4th place. It wasn't a podium position, but it was another great ride for the Texas rider.

Cole Seely continue to put in impressive rides. The Honda rider walked away from San Fran with a 5th place finish. Also putting in an impressive ride was rookie Travis Baker. The Motoconcepts rider looked strong and moved forward the whole race placing 6th. Look for T-Bake to break into the top five before the season ends.

Hansen did it again; he jumped out of the gate like a rocket, but then went flying off of the track in the first turn.  He was just about died last before he got back going again.  If this kid could just get through the first few laps clean he would be on the box week in and week out!
