Pit Pastor #5

Moses is my hero for one reason and one reason only. After he's dead, Joshua says, "Since then no prophet has risen in Israel like the man Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face." (Deuteronomy  34.10) I want that for myself! I want to know God so intimately that it's like speaking to a friend.

I've been going through a rough season, while I won't get into the details I've become spiritually and emotionally frail. What used to slide off me like water off a duck's back now can send me into a stewing anger or a paralyzing sadness. I found myself asking what would Moses do in my situation? So I went back to study Exodus, Numbers, and Dueteronomy, as I did that, a very clear pattern emerged. Everytime Moses faced opposition, the Bible says he "cried out to the Lord." No water and people are complaining . . . he cried out to the Lord. Sis and Bro are envious. . . he cried out to the Lord. Amelekites coming . . . he cried out to the Lord. I'm not the sharpest tool in the box, but I can recognize a pattern when I see one and this is a pattern.

So here's how I see it. God allows obstacles into Moses already difficult task so that Moses will cry out to God and become intimate with Him. How intimate? Like knowing Him face to face. It was God's mercy and grace to allow obstacles into Moses life, for without them Moses would have never experienced God the way he did.

With the obstacles I face I have a choice to make. I can cry out to God, or I can just cry. If I cry out to God the suffering is redeemed, if I just cry the suffering is wasted.

With the obstacles God's brought into your life, you have the same choice.

Shalom,
Troy
