Pit Pastor #10: A program that works
By: Troy Wong
November

I
f you read or watch interviews of the pros they'll almost always mention their program . "Yeah, I gotta thank my new trainer, he's got me on a new program and it's working real good fer shure." "I don't care what others are doing, I got a program and I gotta stick to it, fer shure." "Last year was a disappointment so we tweeked my program and I'm feeling way stronger (yep, you guessed it) fer shure."

We all know what a program is when they talk about it. It's a plan, a plan to get better, a plan to get stronger, a plan to get faster, and stay healthy the whole season.

As a moderator for the ghost town of a forum called PanicRev Cross-Training ( http://www.panicrev.org/forum/index.php ) I'm all about staying in shape. Right now I do some kind of physical training every day of the week. As motocrossers, it's important to get fit and stay fit, not only so we can enjoy our sport through better performances, but also for safety sake!

We'll after 14 years I got my whole family on a program . . . and it's working real good for sure! But there's a couple key differences: (1) It's not a motocross program, it's spiritual program. (2) You don't need an Aldon Baker, you got God. (3) While Stewart and every pro will guard their program like Fort Knox, I'm willing to share every single detail of the Wong family program with you.

Let me tell you about the program, how we work the program, then I'll tell you the benefits of the program.

The Program:

Go to http://www.navpress.com/Store/Product/9781576839744.html. There you'll find a program that will take you through the Bible in a year. But this program is different. (1) It only has you read 25 days a month, leaving you 5-6 free days. (2) You read two New Testament (NT) and two Old Testament (OT) passages each time.

Here's a sample of what the program looks like (notice how short the NT passages are)

November

1

John 7.37-44

2 Peter 1.1-11

Job 1

Ezekiel 1-3

2

John 7.45-53

2 Peter 1.12-21

Job 2

Ezekiel 4-8

3

John 8.1-12

2 Peter 2.1-9

Job 3

Ezekiel 9-12

Etc.

Working the Program:

I read all four passages. My wife reads at least the NT passages, sometimes more. The 9 th , 7 th and 5 th graders read the NT passages only. And the little guy (2 nd grader) only reads the first NT passage (about 2 minutes).

We read on our own. I read in the morning, they rest read before bed. Yet, we're all reading the same NT Bible passage (John in the example above).

Benefits of the program:

Success . We've got built in accountability with all of us reading the passages on the same day. Prior to his some members of my family would flake off, that's not happening anymore. We even got my parents involved in reading!

Better praying . Without a steady intake of the Word our prayers begin to get repetitious. We pray for the same thing the same way over and over again. Being in the word has brightened up our prayer life. Not only that, but when we pray according to the Bible, we are praying according to God's will, and He tends to answer those prayers . . . a lot!

Unity. We're in this together and it' fun.

So you don't have a family. You can do it with friends. Duh . . .

Read this verse aloud:

1 Timothy 4.8-9 - For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance.

Have fun this Christmas season. Ride hard. Read your Bible.
Troy
