Column by: Juan Laredo

Each month we will feature a PanicRev.org Forum member here on the PanicRev Ministries website. Sign up, join in on the conversation and community--next month's Forum Member Profile could be you!!!

PRev: What is your name?
MB: Mike Boyd, although the motorcycle industry has taken a liking to reffering to me as "Mikey."

PRev: Ok then "Mikey," whats is your username on the forum?
MB: MotoMikey105

PRev: Where do you reside?
MB: Riverside California, but I am currently attending school and living in Phoenix Arizona.

Prev: What school are you attending?
MB: Motorcycle Mechanics Institute.

PRev: Is that something you've always wanted to do?
MB: For a long time I had no idea what I wanted to do. I guess a passion for the technical aspect of motorcycles in general developed when I was in highschool and I decided to make it a career.

PRev: Do you hope to someday maybe become a Mechanic for pro racers? What is your goal?
MB: Working on a professional race team would be a lot of fun and I would love the oppurtunity, but it is a demanding schedule and definatly not something you can do forever let alone make a living at. Unless your rider is under one of the big rigs it is a tough way to make a living. I have no hard set long term goals at the moment. Right now I am looking forward to moving back to Riverside and finding a job in the industry somewhere to excersize what I have learned. Racing is my passion though, and I guess subcontiously that is one goal of mine is to work in racing.

PRev: Other then ride and race motocross, what else do you do?
MB: I spend way to much time in front of my computer for one. And other than working on bikes, and going to school, not a whole lot. Of course beating Juan at Mx Unleashed is a small pleasure in life.

PRev: I think perhaps u spelled "loosing too Juan " wrong in that last answer. I will fix it for you [laughter]. How and when did you discover PanicRev?
MB: I have known Scott Parkinson since was about 16, just from motocross message boards and riding around SoCal. I guess I was a supporter it from the very begining. I really belive in what PanicRev promotes and practices. I hope to be a part of it for a long time to come.

PRev: Rumor has it your the official mechanic for the PanicRev Race Team? Any truth to that?
MB: The pay is really crummy [laughter]. But honestly any of the riders needing some work done I am more than willing to provide my services for minimal if any charge at all. I just think it is really cool to finally be in the position to be able to give something back to a community--a comunity that has giving me a lot. Not just PanicRev, but the motocross community in general.

PRev: How is life differ now as an a new adult, living on your own, compared to smoochin off your parents all thru high school--especially living so far away?
MB: Way less riding for sure. What used to be 2 days a week or more is now down to once every 4-6 weeks. Working and going to school can be tough and living 400 miles away from your friends and family does not make it any easier, but I am working hard towards what I want to do. So hopefully it will pay off later. The food is no good either, my culinary arts skills are minimal at best, I guess I use wrenches instead of spoons for a reason.

PRev: So tell us about your "HOG"!
MB: I ride a Honda CRF450, nothing too special, suspension by MIKEY, as well as some mild motor work. The bike has really come along a lot since I started school in 2005 and have been learning a lot of new skills. At least it's got enough to get around, and that's all that really matters at the end of the day.

PRev: Tell us how you think your new skills will help in your walk with the Lord.

MB: Really tough one, why are you going to go and do that? Trying to make me look bad? [Laughter] Really I just hope to be the best technician I can be and if God has it in his plan for me to take it to a level where I can do it as a professional than so be it. Being happy is what led me to this career in the first place and thats how I want to keep it. Helping out my friends and family comes first. I want to work more with PanicRev Minitries in the future and I hope that the community here can lead me closer to the Lord. I know in the last 2 years being somewhat "alone in the desert" has brought me closer to God than ever before. Whenever I have needed guidance or help things have seemed to work out time and time again. I know the Lord's work is behind it and his plan will lead me to where I belong.

PRev: What rider do you admire most?
MB: That is another tough one. I had always admired Mike Larocco just due to his sheer longevity and consistincy in the sport. The guy was getting podiums and even a win or two up until his last season. Not to mention he was up there in the 250 class when guys like McGrath were just getting started on the 125'. When I first started racing when I was 16 and I even race a big number 5 on my bike [laughter].

PRev: What about style, what rider you think has the best and smoothest style?
MB: Kevin Windham, no doubt get's the style catergory for sure. He rides so fluid and smoothe it does not even look like he is going fast until you see his lap times--alway just barely off the top spot. Tthose whips are also EPIC, the way he just lays the bike over and hangs off.

PRev: I have to agree. What about your own style? How would you describe it?
MB: Besides slow? [Laughter] I guess however it is that lankey guys ride--legs all over the place just trying to hang on most of the time. Kind of like Vullimen, but a lot slower I guess. I guess the word "goofy" would best describe my own style, considering more often than not my foot ends up somewhere near my rear wheel in a corner.

PRev: [Laughter] What would you say motivates you the most in a race?
MB: Having fun no doubt! Some of the races I have enjoyed the most I ended up in the middle or back of the pack. Having a good battle with someone during a race win or loose will put a smile on my face for a week.

PRev: If you had a chance to spend the day with a member of the PanicRev crew, who would it be and why?
MB: Do I have to pick just one?

PRev: You can be the first to pick more then 1 if u like ...

MB: MotoMom for sure because she has always been a good friend and I have not seen Laurie in a long time ... and she brings food, so I can't turn down that oppurtunity! Okay I guess I will have to say Juan can come hang out too, since he provides some minimal level of compeition on Mx Unleashed [laughter].

PRev: [Laughter] Mike do you believe in what PanicRev is doing?
MB: Absolutely. I am proud to be a part of it and hope to get even more involved in the future however i can.

PRev: Why do you love Jesus?
MB: For one because he gave up everything for me, and by doing so has led me to everything I have and who I have become as a person, a rider, technician, everything. Everytime in my life I have drifted away from the teachings of the Lord it has led to nothing I am proud of. I will admit I have sinned and it is comforting to know that Jesus is there to forgive, support, and lead me to where I belong. Put simply, how could you not love a cool dude like that?

PRev: Awesome, Is there any sponsors or any people you would like to thank?
MB: My mom and Dad for supporting me in everything anyway they could. The good Lord of course. PanicRev Racing, SixSixOne, Sunline, Simpson, Ready Filter, Dunlop, Motion Pro, Boysen, Scott Goggles all for supporting me although my racing and riding schedule has been severly limited recently.

PRev: Well Mike I want to thank you for the funniest interview I've done so far. God Bless And thanks for doing this for us.

MB: Not a problem. Thank you for giving me the exposure.
